In a report by the Global Peace Index, the Philippines ranks the highest when it comes to the risk of multiple climate change hazards such as floods, cyclones, and droughts. It appears our strong typhoons are not something we should ignore. To address this issue, car company Peugeot Philippines vows to fight climate change through its program “Protectors of the Environment (POE).”
POE is Peugeot Philippines’ first pledge in corporate philanthropy. It aims to involve Peugeot customers and their children to fight climate change, immersing them in the issues about environmental conservation.
“At this critical time, everyone needs to be aware of what is happening to our planet in order to make those critical decisions. And we are doing our small part in making sure that our customers and their children have every opportunity to create lasting change,”
-POE Program Director Dong Magsajo said.
This movement gives new owners of Peugeot to join a battle for the environment. There will be annual tree-planting activities in different locations, including a one-hectare space in the Angat Dam Reserve and Eco Park adopted and maintained by Peugeot Philippines. The car company also commits to planting at least seven seedlings for each member.
Members can also participate in educational nature tours and seminars and various international fora on climate. These initiatives are made possible by the French Embassy, the Department of Environment and Natural Resources, and the Briquettors Association of the Philippines.
Climate change is real and it is here. As a vow to protect nature, it’s time for people and companies to come together and combat environmental issues.
