When we take a ride on a BGC Bus, it will be more convenient if a passenger has a beep™ card for faster transaction. Otherwise, one would resort to manually validated paper ticketing. Good thing the convenience of technology reached our commuting experience.
The Philippines has developed its first-ever QR code transport ticketing system with the help of AF Payments. It starts with the Manila-based BGC Bus and the Cebu-based Topline Express Ferries.
In addition to using beep™ cards, commuters now have the option to buy QR code-based tickets. The QR Code (Quick Response Code) has information that can be read quickly by a QR reader, allowing faster passenger entry into the boarding areas. Commuters will scan these tickets before boarding, ensuring a quicker validation and hassle-free commuter experience.
Apart from a new way of ticketing, AF Payments also brings in modernized payments. Passengers can now use their GCash app to pay for fare. According to Jun Galvez, General Manager of Bonifacio Transport Corporation, this technology is in line with the BGC Bus’s aim to make commuting more convenient to visitors, employees, or residents.
“We operate a systematic, efficient and affordable transportation system for the city and are constantly looking for ways to improve our service. We believe that QR ticketing and payments will improve not only the speed of boarding but also offer our riders more options for payment,”Galvez said.
AF Payments Inc. is planning to roll out QR ticketing to other partner buses in Metro Manila. They believe QR tickets reduce implementation and integration cost for public transport operators. The data conveyed through QR code tickets helps operators to accurately and timely record transactions.
You can try out the QR ticketing system and modernized mode of payment on your next trip on a BGC Bus! We wish you a convenient Metro Manila adventure.
AF Payments Inc. is a consortium of Metro Pacific Investments Corp. (MPIC) and Ayala Corp. that provides contactless payment solutions in the Philippines through its integrated product and service offerings, thereby enhancing the transaction experience of every Filipino.
Its tap-to-pay system, the beep™ card, is available for use in all three elevated railways (LRT-1, LRT-2, and MRT-3) and select PUVs, tollways, and retail partners. It is reloadable up to P10,000 and is valid for four years.
