Awareness Over Business: Eco Warrior PH Fights for Sustainable Lifestyle

We couldn’t bear to watch videos showing scientists pulling straws from turtles’ noses, or see photos of dead whales with their bellies full of plastic waste. For the Eco Warrior PH team, the mentioned video made them decide to change their “wasteful” lifestyle for good.

Eco Warrior PH, an earth-minded local online lifestyle store, was founded by LA Lacson, an animal and nature lover. The shop started selling stainless steel straws (since the members all love milk tea and felt guilty for every plastic cup and straw they use) to reduce plastic usage.  After a month, their customers asked them if they also sell bamboo straws. From then on, they developed bamboo products and other sustainable alternatives to create awareness.

By Their Powers Combined

The EcoWarrior PH team has been a fan of the ‘90s animated character, Captain Planet. It's safe to say the team are "planeteers" in their own right.

Captain Planet might just be a fictional character but his adventures are not far from what Mother Earth is facing now. Because of a certain Captain Planet episode that concerns oil spills and marine wildlife, the Eco Warrior PH team are heroes of today in their own little ways.

The Fight for Sustainability

The people behind Eco Warrior PH did not let the Captain Planet advocacies stop on TV. Now, they are continuing the real battle against things that pollute the environment. They’ve created products that would raise awareness for every customer and user.  Some of their products include Reusable Facial Cotton Wipes, their number one best-selling product. It’s made of pure cotton and neatly sewn personally by one of their team members.

Another one is the Animalia Bamboo Tumbler with Tea Infuser. It comes with an engraved reminder: "Handle with care, Plastic is everywhere."

And for those who are always on-the-go, Eco Warrior PH has a Bamboo Travel Set—inclusive of bamboo cutlery, bamboo straw with a cleaning brush, and a bamboo toothbrush.

A percentage of their profit goes to different organizations, where they donate anonymously. They help small groups and organizations who spread the word about being sustainability, and even partner with Green Army Philippines to raise funds for a coastal clean-up activity.

Eco Warrior PH also helps the local farmers in Palawan as they get most of their bamboo products in the area—a way to help the farmers provide for their needs and their children’s education.

The Core of Being an Eco Warrior

Eco Warrior PH doesn’t focus on zero waste lifestyle. Although they think this the most ideal practice, what matters most is the little things and the effort people do every day to reduce plastic and single-waste items. Bringing reusable spoons and stainless straws might seem a little act, but when millions of people do the same, these acts can make a difference—everything starts with baby steps.

“We don't need a handful of people doing zero-waste [lifestyle] perfectly. We need millions of people doing it imperfectly,” -Lacson, founder of Eco Warrior PH.

For Eco Warrior PH, you don’t have to observe a total zero-waste lifestyle to be an eco warrior. As long as you’re doing your best to put the environment over your convenience—bringing your own reusables and refusing single-use items to start—you are considered as a hero of the environment, of this planet, and of the generations to come.
