We definitely know 'print is not dead' with the annual success of book fairs in Manila, rather, we need more of it. Good news! There's going to be one soon and it puts the spotlight is local literature. Enter, Aklatan: The All-Filipino Book Fair happening on November 20-21 at the SM Megamall, Megatrade Hall 3.
From the organizers behind the Manila International Book Fair (MIBF), the Book Development Association of the Philippines (BDAP) organized a two-day book fair of nothing but books published and authored locally. Known local publishers, authors, booksellers, and book creators will be gathered there, too.
You can expect Visprint, the publisher behind the books of Bob Ong, Manix Abrera, Trese Komiks, Eros Atalia, and Ricky Lee among others. Actually, Visprint first organized the Aklatan back in 2013 and was co-presented by the National Book Development Board (NBDB).
Here's the official list of publishers at this year's Aklatan: The All-Filipino Book Fair: Adarna House Inc., MSA Publishing, OMF Literature, Ateneo de Manila University Press, Anvil Publishing, Visprint, Central Books Supply, Lampara, Psicom Publishing, Archivo 1984, KWF, CARD MRI, ABCEDC
Deemed as the “biggest all-Filipino book fair” Aklatan is here to prove locally made books are thriving more than ever. And, yes, an all-local book fair is possible with as many attendees as a regular one. Long live Phil Lit!
