Growing up with Japanese anime aired by our local TV networks is every pinoy 90s kids’ pride. Our childhood favorites like Card Captor Sakura, HunterXHunter, Ghost Fighter, and Flame of Recca send nostalgia and make us want to explore Japan—and we can. Inside Manila, there’s an anime convention that would get all fans on hype.
Best of Anime aims to promote Japanese culture through education, exhibition, and entertainment. It started as a co-located event of the Manila International Book Fair in 2009, but now, Best of Anime is one of the biggest anime conventions in the country. For the past years, they’ve invited guest cosplayers like Reika (Japan), Yuegene Fay (Thailand), Mon (Taiwan) and Misa Chiang (Taiwan). Guests also got to see distinguished Japanese performers like SPYAIR, An Café, INKT, Eir Aoi, and Haruna Luna.
Now on its 10th year, the event promises great events anime fans will be pleased to see. For this year, Best of Anime will feature idol groups STARMARIE and Yumeoi Syoujyo, indie visual kei rock band Uchusentai: Noiz, rock band Back-On, and all-Filipino, Japanese idol group Aidoru Sozai. Cosplayers like Taiwan’s Chihiro, Momo, and King and Japan’s Monya will also grace this year’s Best of Anime convention.
Best of Anime also holds different competitions and workshops like Inter-School and All-Star
Cosplay Competition, Quickdraw Competitions, Battle of the Bands, BOA Superstar, Dubbing Workshop, Cosplay-Making, and Make-up Workshops. Catch all of the guest performers and cosplayers, competitions, and workshops at the SMX Convention Center, Mall of Asia, Pasay City from August 31 to September 1, 10:00 am to 8:00 pm.
