Ballet Philippines Opens a New Season to Celebrate its 50 years of Artistry and Creative Genius

This season at Ballet Philippines will be the most exciting yet. 

Ballet Philippines, being the first resident company of the Cultural Center of the Philippines, is the preeminent professional classical and contemporary dance company in the country. The company, in celebrating 50 illustrious years, will be bringing to the stage some of the most beloved masterworks in dance. 

The 50th season of Ballet Philippines will also see a grand celebration of artistry and creative genius.

Swan Lake
When: August 30 to September 8
Where: The Cultural Center of the Philippines (CCP) Main Theater, CCP Complex, Pasay City

Ballet Philippines opens its 50th season with one of the most iconic classical ballets, Swan Lake. This season mounts a performance with new sets by Toto Sicangco, featuring Elena Evseeva and Andrey Ermakov, stars from the Mariinsky Theater (Kirov Ballet) in two evening performances.

With music by Pyotr Illyich Tchaikovsky, this ballet masterpiece has been a staple in the company's repertoire since 1978. International and local dance stars will grace the sacred stage to grace the roles in Ballet Philippines' Swan Lake. 

Midsummer Night's Dream
When: October 11 to 13
Where: The Cultural Center of the Philippines (CCP) Main Theater, CCP Complex, Pasay City

The genius of William Shakespeare inspires Carlo Pacis' magical and reimagined interpretation of A Midsummer Nights' Dream. This neo-classical spin on the classic tale breathes life to the enchanting story about young lovers, fairies, sprites, and their many twists and turns under the light of the moon.

Cinderella
When: December 6 to 15
Where: The Cultural Center of the Philippines (CCP) Main Theater, CCP Complex, Pasay City

To celebrate the holidays, Ballet Philippines is mounting the timeless tale of Cinderella as choreographed by National Artist for Dance, Alice Reyes. The musical score by Pytor Ilyich Tchaikovsky, which was specially arranged by Francisco Feliciano, will transport audiences to an enchanting universe. 

The design vision of National Artist Salvador Bernal adds dimension to this world where pumpkins turn into exquisite carriages and glass slippers find their way back to its rightful princess. The holidays at the theater make for unforgettable experiences when its with Ballet Philippines.

Itim Asu & Other Dances
When: February 21 to 23
Where: The Cultural Center of the Philippines (CCP) Main Theater, CCP Complex, Pasay City

At the core of this production, the company restages a modern classic, Itim Asu. Based on three ritual scenes from Virginia Moreno’s award-winning drama The Onyx Wolf, the 1970 landmark production once again returns to the stage.

Ballet Philippines showcases its diverse and dynamic repertoire as well as the strength of its company in the different dance styles. With over 500 choreographic gems to choose from, this production will continue the retrospective story of the company’s journey to becoming the forefront of innovation, and artistic excellence in Philippine Dance.

Rama, Hari
When: March 20 to 29
Where: The Cultural Center of the Philippines (CCP) Main Theater, CCP Complex, Pasay City

The 50th season will end on a high note as four National Artists come together for the epic Rama, Hari.

Bienvenido Lumbera’s Libretto, production design by Salvador Bernal, music by Ryan Cayabyab and choreography by Alice Reyes, make Rama, Hari one of the most spectacular shows in the Philippine theater.

Witness the finest in dance, song, and story-telling this season and join as Ballet Philippines close a chapter and move onwards.
