If the reception from the 38th edition of the biggest and highly anticipated book fair in the country was any indication, the expectations this year are high. And high, it'll reach.
Slated on September 12 to 16 at the SMX Convention Center in Pasay, the 39th Manila International Book Fair (MIBF) will again be opening two floors of exhibit space to satisfy every bookworms' year-long wait for the event.
The book fair attendees have grown exponentially through the years and getting the event deets is quite the quandary. That said, here's everything you should know about the 39th MIBF.
Tickets will be available at the gate for a good 50php but free printable tickets can save you from waiting in long lines. Download and print the passes here or here. You can also visit any Fully Booked branches for free tickets.
The five-day affair will include book signings, book launches, meet and greets, storytelling sessions for kids, special contests, workshops, and other activities for bookworms both young and old.
Publishing houses, bookstores, and literary institutions will bring some of their bestselling authors to fulfill the aforementioned activities. Visiting the NBS booth, for instance, are Lualhati Bautista (Dekada '70), Juan Miguel Severo (Habang Wala Pa Sila), Stanley Chi (Office Petiks), Beverly Siy (Pukiusap), and more.
Irene Lloren, president of MIBF organizer Primetrade Asia, Inc., wasn't kidding when she said this year will be an even bigger year for MIBF. Over 100 exhibitors ranging from local indie publishers to big bookstore chains are waiting for fairgoers. More exhibitors, more books!
The second floor will be dedicated to special exhibitions featuring children’s and young adult book publishers, including digital publications kids and kids-at-heart are sure to enjoy.
POP HUB: Comic Splash x Fandom Fest Vol. 1
There's more to geek out on as the first "POP HUB: Comic Splash" will co-locate the MIBF on the 15th and 16th at the SMX Function Room 3. And when we say geek, we mean Star Wars-level geek.
Among the participating fandoms are Fight Saber, a Lucasfilm-recognized worldwide costuming organization; Philippine Garrison, the local organization of the international 501st Legion; Philippine Tolkien Society; and Hamilton Philippines.
There's a lot to catch (and buy) at the 39th MIBF so make sure to bring all the essentials. Excited? We bet you are.
