Talented Filipino singers and musicians are discovered on reality competitions, singing contests, and talent shows, if not through going viral on Facebook or YouTube. Old ways die hard but now, the next big OPM star could be singing along the Light Railway Transit (LRT) tracks.
The Light Rail Manila Corporation (LRMC) and ikotMNL, alongside their partners the Organisasyon ng mga Pilipinong Mang-Aawit (OPM) is hosting Railway Jam, a series of busking sessions where local musicians and acts perform at the Baclaran, Doroteo Jose, and Monumento LRT-1 stations for the commuters’ entertainment.
Railway Jam's initiative was inspired when a soulful local songbird named Miss Ramonne performed OPM hits at LRT-1 Baclaran Station on May 16. LRMC president and CEO Juan Felipe Alfonso states that the institution wants to recognize the wealth of musical talent in our local OPM musicians by giving them an open space to showcase those gifts. All the while, the riding public will be entertained and, in a way, eased from the stresses of commuting.
Meanwhile, OPM president Ogie Alcasid extends his gratitude to LRMC for the opportunity they've given OPM acts to be seen and heard, which the OPM acts rightfully deserves.
Discover loved and fresh acts at the Railway Jam every weekend until June. Who knows, the next one you catch might break out, and you can say that you were right there up close at their Railway Jam session!
