In case you didn’t notice, a lot of the childhood cartoons we grew up with were mostly animal characters with human traits like Bugs Bunny, Tom & Jerry, Mickey Mouse—and you can name more for sure. But we bet most of you are not aware there’s a name for people or communities who are fans of these specific types of characters—they are called furries.
Furries are huge fans of these human-like animal characters to the point of creating merchandise like plushies and stickers or wearing animal costumes they wear in conventions, parades, shows, and even charity events.
In the Philippines, we have a wide array of enthusiasts—entrepreneurs, artists, designers, and even engineers and academians who are active furies. Majority of the furry community are teenagers and young adults, but the fandom is open to all ages.

Our local furries are open to educating people about their hobby. And to effectively do this, they organized Furry Pinas—the annual premiere furry convention in the country.
Now on its second year, Furry Pinas 2019 is considered the largest furry convention in Asia serving as the official annual hub for the furry hobby in the Philippines. Check it out on June 8-9, 2019 at the Bayanihan Center (Near SM Megamall).
The convention aims to create a more welcoming avenue for those who want to understand and know more about the hobby while providing a safe and happy space for furries to just have fun, socialize, and enjoy the hobby as a group.
