Have you had a hard time choosing between keeping or throwing away old things? And as much as we try to upcycle ala pinterest, we often end up failing because not all of us are gifted enough with such craft—only ending up to more waste. Thankfully, our DIY woes can now be cured. There are events and workshops in the metro we can attend FOR FREE that provide practical lessons or reusing or upcycling items.

MAKE SMTHNG Week, an international series of sustainable events, is happening here in Manila. The event aims to bring people together for a hands-on experience on recycling, selling, upcycling, and item swapping (from food, toys, fashion to tech ware). MAKE SMTHNG's goal is to initiate cultural change through creative solutions when it comes to battling. overconsumption. Overall, it seeks to #MakeSomething #BuyNothing become the new norm.

MAKE SMTHNG partners with The Good Trade, an organization that hosts sustainable fairs for ethical and zero waste cause, and SHARVD, which offers private and communal spaces for both business and event matters. The two-part event in partnership with these brands will be held on November 23 and December 1.

Zero-Waste Lawn Party

The Good Trade PH is throwing a zero waste and sustainable gathering on Saturday, November 24, at Skypark, 5th Floor, SM Aura. It will be facilitated by passionate individuals and brands sharing handcraft workshops with in-depth discussion forum and outdoor documentary screenings. The event will start from 2:00 pm up to 9:00pm.

Don’t forget to to also bring your produce bags and items for donation if you have as there will be merchants, refillable, and alteration stations to drop off your items for mending.

Fashion Swapping

Workshops and Fashion Swapping Event, on the other hand, will be happening on December 1 in partnership with SHARVD Co-working at The Valero Towr, Bel-Air Makati. SHARVD will host basic mending and upcycling workshops, too.

These events will certainly be the best time to strengthen our resourcefulness and make solutions to overconsumption. Take that can-do-attitude of MAKE SMTHNG and #MakeChangeNow!
