Following the signing of the Republic Act 11036 better known as the "Philippine Mental Health Law", PhilHealth has officially announced it now covers mental health and behavioral disorders.

"Sakop ng PhilHealth ang mga Mental and Behavioral Disorders," wrote PhilHealth in a Facebook post last October 8.

The government-owned corporation can now shoulder Mental and Behavioral Disorders case up to Php7,800. However, this would only apply to hospitalized patients brought about by acute attacks of mental and behavioral disorders.

Senator Sonny Angara before has called PhilHealth to expand its primary care package to mental health disorders—free checkups, consultations with psychiatrists, laboratory tests, and medicines to its members.

This is only a fraction of what can be addressed to support and help those who have mental health issues, but, it’s already a promising future for everyone.

Let us all still continue to fight the stigma against mental health.
