(Inside Manila) The Department of Tourism (DOT) decided to not push through with the Madrid Fusión Manila this year and instead moved the gastronomical congress in 2019.

According to Tourism Secretary Bernadette Romulo-Puyat, the lack of time preparing for the event is the reason behind. Citing no bidding has yet even begun for the event supposedly scheduled by mid-September.

"Why will it not push through? There's still a bidding, it hasn't started yet," said Romulo-Puyat in a report by Philippine News Agency.

With the bidding in the process, the government may rush the event, something the Tourism Secretary do not prefer.

"I'd rather do it properly, do not rush things up. I've already talked to the organizers abroad; I said we lacked time,"

Moreover, the supposed event venue, SMX Convention Center, was already booked for September opposed to what the Tourism Promotions Board said in earlier reports.

If it pushed through, this year is supposedly the fourth installment of the Madrid Fusión Manila.

The Madrid Fusión Manila is one of the country’s largest gastronomical congresses that highlights the integration of culinary dishes in the Philippines, Spain and in other parts of the world.
