(Inside Manila) Fruits in the best condition are a rare buy. More often than not, buyers are in a 'hit or miss' situation because the popular 'knocking' technique can't always be trusted and does not work on all types of fruits. This is quite a prehistoric way to check on ripe fruits.

Fortunately, it doesn't have to be that way for there are easy measures a buyer can do to ensure they'll be taking home a big, sweet and juicy fruit rather than a bland one.

There are quite a few ways to tell if a watermelon is ready to eat. But the most popular one is checking if the fruit has brown spots known as "webbing".

According to Mak-Migro Farms LTD, these webbing indicates that bees have touched the flower of the fruit to pollinate. More webbing means more pollination which in turn makes the fruit much sweeter than the rest.

Furthermore, a ripe strawberry is thoroughly red. If it has any bit of white or slight green on its top it’s likely to be under-ripe

It's quite easy to spot a ripe grape from the rest. A ripe grape has fresh, unblemished stalks while you can spot the overripe as its stalks are dead.

An orange might have a bright color, but its inside may not as be. To know if you got fruit that is as colorful as on the inside, try to feel it. If it's firm, quite heavy but soft once it's pressed you're definitely on the right fruit.

A ripe pineapple gives off a sweet smell once it's ripe and ready to be eaten. Moreover, the easier the top leaves are to pull the riper it is.
