(Inside Manila) Sudden rains and thunderstorms in the afternoon or evening are seen to be more frequent as the rainy season nears, marking the looming end of summer.

Rains, winds, and thunderstorms were felt in Metro Manila and other parts of the country in the past few days that lasted for about one to two hours.

In a radio interview over dzMM, Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) weather forecaster Aldczar Aurelio said on Monday, May 14 that the rainy season may start during the last week of May.

This year's summer is shorter compared to previous years due to a "weak" La Niña condition characterized by the unusually cool ocean surface temperatures in the central and eastern equatorial Pacific.

The state weather bureau declared the beginning of summer or dry season last April 10.
