(Inside Manila) As early as sixth grade, Parokya ni Edgar vocalist Chito Miranda tried smoking so he could appear "cool". The supposed "trial" turned more frequent until he started to buy his own packs and smoke every day.

The singer then did almost anything while smoking: drinking, after eating, writing songs, and even while recording music. He even revealed that he sings better when he gets his dose of cigarettes.

He didn't care about his health and all he knew was that he enjoyed smoking. Four years ago, however, he decided to cut down.

"Pero 4 years ago, I decided to cut down because I realized na kahit enjoy ako mag-yosi, mas enjoy ako tumugtog, kaya na-isip ko na mas alagaan ang sarili ko, and more importantly, my throat. Puff puff nalang ng konti bago kumanta sa gig or sa recording, para lang lumatag ng maayos ang boses ko, pero pag walang gig, no yosi whatsoever," he shared.

A year after, he completely stopped when he married Neri Naig and started a family.

"Kinasal ako and started a family.

He admitted that he struggled to sing when he stopped smoking but he did get the hang of it.

Wala naman yatang nakapansin hahaha!" he joked.

Finally, here's a piece of advice Chito would like to impart to struggling smoke-quitters.

"You simply need to be stronger than your cravings, and remind yourself why nag-quit ka in the first place," Chito advised.
