Flip the mad-switch off because a cuter way to pay your commuting fare is here—Beep cards are getting a kawaii makeover!

AFPI, the makers of the oh-so-reliable Beep card, has partnered with Sanrio Co., Ltd., a Japanese company that introduced us to the kawaii characters of our childhood. Together, they created the Hello Kitty Limited Edition Beep Cards, which comes in three colors: blue, red, and yellow.

The Hello Kitty Limited Edition Beep Card is the third collection Beep released over the years. In 2017, Beep created a Justice League collection with six designs featuring none other than Batman, Superman, The Flash, Aquaman, Cyborg, and Wonder Woman—the latter having its own four-card set not long after.

AF Payments' partnership with Sanrio is both out of the blue and out of the box; a Hello Kitty-inspired tap-and-go card is something we didn't know we needed. Who can resist the Japanese cartoon character? Her fan base has grown from the OG tweens to adolescents and adults, proving Hello Kitty's appeal is multi-generational.

On why Hello Kitty, AF Payments Marketing Head Agnes Padilla said in an interview with Inside Manila that their initial research showed people in their 50s, 40s, to the millennials are familiar with and they still love Hello Kitty.

She stated that the level of fanaticism towards the Japanese Gijinka (a combination of human and a Japanese bobtail) is comparable to that of Star Wars fans. It is with such reason that Beep went with the character and, based on the launch's reception, it won't be long 'til the cards go out of stock.

When asked what's next for Beep, Agnes Padilla said they are looking forward to another release this year. Though subject to changes, the closest hint we got so far is it's another Sanrio character. Will it be the games-loving frog Keroppi? The lazy, spunk-lacking egg Gudetama? The rage-filled red panda Aggretsuko? The mischievous little penguin Badtz-Maru? We'll be holding on to our seats for the meantime.

Upgrade your Beep card collection! The Hello Kitty Limited Edition Beep Card can be purchased for 188php each in Metro Manila branches of Daiso.
