(Inside Manila) The government is bound to begin the construction of Southeast Metro Manila Expressway (SMME), the first pace of the Metro Manila Circumferential-6 Expressway Project.

SMME is a 34- kilometer toll road and six-laned project that is intended to run from Skyway/FTI in Taguig City to Batasan Complex in Quezon City (QC). It is also planned to be connected to the North Luzon Expressway via Balagtas.

According to Department of Transportation, the 45 billion-worth project will decongest roads in Metro Manila particularly along EDSA, C-5, Ortigas Avenue, and its extensions.

Once completed, SMME is expected to trim down the travel time of motorists from Bicutan, Taguig to Batasan, QC to 35 minutes.

The first of six sections of the project, Skyway/FTI to C5/Diego Silang, is eyed to be finished by 2020.
