Two Computer Engineering students from De La Salle University, Don Emmanuel Santamaria, 21, and Fae Nicole Serrano, 20 proved that young minds are indeed equal to great ideas. In fact, their idea earned them the chance to represent the country in Go Green in the City 2018 Asia Pacific Regional finals. Yay!
Go Green in the City is a competition among students, which involves the search for solutions to the global energy challenge.
Now, what had they actually done to be PH reps for the competition? Don and Fae, or Team Green Goldies, as they call themselves, came up with the idea of an online platform called E-hub, which packages all things renewable into a single application.
E-hub basically has three features:
-Allows the users to invest and donate on renewable energy resources
-Allows project developers to propose projects and set-up crowdfunding
-An e-store to buy and sell products related to green energy
Plus, it has additional features, including the latest news and articles about renewable energy. It’s equipped with games, too.
The two PH reps are in high hopes that E-hub would give awareness to people on what is renewable and take part on those problems.
As Don said, "One major barrier to this is the lack of awareness of people as they always think that renewable energy is not good, it's not feasible, it's expensive, but through E-hub, that's one thing that needed to change."
They are all set for more mentoring and developing of E-hub. With their determination to spread awareness about renewable energy, it is not impossible for them to win the regional finals.Don Emm
Best of luck, Don and Fae! Make the Philippines and Mother Earth proud!
