Happy Tongue Twister Day!

(Inside Manila) From classics like the “Peter Piper” to the most complex ones like “The sixth sick sheik’s sixth sheep’s sick,” tongue twisters’ difficulty to articulate had proven to be one of the best parlor games in the world.

Not only are these tongue twisters fun, they also exercise the tongue for better diction and overall speech, regardless of the downright nonsensical mix of words some phrases possess. Let’s get right into it!

Start off with tongue-tangling classics:

“She sells seashells by the seashore.”

“Peter Piper picked a peck of pickled peppers, a peck of pickled peppers Peter Piper picked, if Peter Piper picked a peck of pickled peppers, where’s the peck of pickled peppers Peter Piper picked?”

“How much wood could a woodchuck chuck if a woodchuck could chuck wood?”

Try repeating these 10 times and faster:

“Top cop.”

“Toy boat.”

“Cricket critic.”

“Unique New York.”

“Shouldered soldier.”

“Red lorry yellow lorry.”

“Chop shops stock chops.”

“The Leith Police dismisseth us.”

You still here?

“The sixth sick sheikh’s sixth sheep’s sick.”

“Can you can a can as a canner can a can?”

“I slit a sheet, a sheet I slit, upon the slitted sheet I sit.”

“The seething sea ceaseth and thus the seething sea sufficeth us.”

“A big bug bit a bold bald bear and the bold bald bear bled blood badly.”

“Imagine an imaginary menagerie manager managing an imaginary menagerie.”

And the hardest one yet, according to Massachusetts Institute of Technology research:

“Pad kid poured curd pulled cod.”

Of course, we Filipinos have our own tongue twisters too!

“Kabilugan ng Buwan, Buwan ng Kabilugan”

“Minikaniko ni Monico ang makina ng Minica ng manika ni Monica”

“Pasko, Paksiw”

“Sinusi ni Susan ang sisidlan ng sisiw”

“Pugong bukid, pugong gubat”

“Butiki, bituka, botika”

“Pitumput-pitong puting tupa”

“Ang relo ni Leroy ay Rolex”

“Notebook at aklat”

“Nakakapagpagababag”

Challenge your family and friends because why not when you made it this far!
