(Inside Manila) Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) deferred the request of transport groups to increase the minimum jeepney fare to two pesos.

According to LTFRB spokesperson Aileen Lizada, transport groups will have to justify the P2 increase as it will affect about three million commuters.

"The petitioners have to justify the P2 increase nila. Bakit nila sinasabing P2, bakit hindi P1.50?" Lizada said.

The board also decided to move the hearing to October 24, noting that the transport groups who attended Wednesday’s hearing were not able to present sufficient documents to support their request.

Meanwhile, the drivers and operators present during the hearing said that the additional fare will be used for the looming modernization plan of the Department of Transportation, and the continuous increase in the prices of petroleum products and spare parts.
