The transition period is over, y'all. The month of love and passion kicks in, and depending on what type of person you are, the atmosphere swiftly changes into either "warm" or "cold."
In case you didn’t know, the Philippines sees the month of February as a National Arts Month. We also celebrate Chinese New Year on February 5 and the EDSA People Power Revolution Anniversary Day on the 25tth, both are special non-working holidays in the country. Digressing from national observations, here are some of the world's unusual yet amusing holidays this month:
February 7. Send a Card to a Friend Day
People who resort to greeting cards are afraid of being too profoundly personal or simply "cannot" with their schedule. We know you're busy, but—news flash—most people are, all year-round. Go old school: send a handwritten letter. It's the perfect excuse to keep in touch with your friends and families, in traditional messaging.
February 11. Clean Out Your Computer Day
What was once a file named "finalfinalfinal.psd" turned into a myriad of derivatives that reflects your personality, which is a hot mess. Declutter with maximum effort by archiving files you no longer need and putting files in the right folder. Finish up with a manual malware scan and give yourself a clean slate. C'mon, it's 2019!
February 14. Library Lovers Day
Don't say libraries aren't relevant anymore because a) not everyone has the privilege of being connected to the Internet; b) not everything you see on the interwebz is true; and c) libraries provide a place with no distractions and therefore, a sense of belongingness. Celebrate this day by heading to the nearest local library and remember: keep quiet.
February 17. Random Act of Kindness Day
When it's been ages since your faith in humanity was last restored (let's be honest, it's fluctuating), maybe the universe is conspiring for you to be the change. Smile more, say "please" and "thank you," hold the door—offer the earth one more reason to keep rotating. Everyone is fighting their own battles; it doesn't hurt to be a little more compassionate.
February 22. Single Tasking Day
Have you ever had one too many tasks on your plate that you don't know which one to prioritize, so you end up procrastinating? They always say breathe and take a step back to see things in perspective and then focus on one task at a time. Focus on a single task for the whole day.
February 24. Tortilla Chip Day
Invented to make use of misshapen tortillas, Tortilla Chips are a testament that no food shall go to waste. Celebrate this crunchy Tex-Mex quintessential appetizer by preparing breakfast, lunch, and dinner featuring tortilla chip as the main ingredient. Serve with salsa or guac and you're good to go!
February 28. Public Sleeping Day
No Manileño and Manileña is ever a stranger to fellows sleeping in commute. Especially if you have a job that demands more than a 9 to 5, catching up on sleep in any given chance is a must. You can also take a quick afternoon nap at that tree in the park and let rays of sunlight spill through the shade. Safety and cleanliness considered!
Go to quirky town and mark your calendars with these unusual celebrations. There’s always time to get weird!
