It’s amazing how fast 2018 can become a stranger as the new year kicks in with new opportunities in life and more chances in trying again. 2018 was nothing to scoff at, and overcoming it deserves a good cheer.
In case you didn’t know, the Philippines observes the month of January as a Zero Waste Month and a General Orientation on Safety and Prevention Month among others. The world, on the other hand, will have these unusual yet amusing holidays:
January 15. Strawberry Ice Cream Day
Fun fact: Strawberries aren't technically fruits but rather an accessory to fruit as they are the ovaries of the plant. Strawberry is one of those fruits that you'll either love or hate, no in-betweens. But when thrown into ice cream, non-fans will probably reconsider. Grab yourself a pint from your favorite dessert stop or even better, try making your own.
January 16. Nothing Day
If you search the name Harold Pullman Coffin on whatever browser you're using, this observation is bound to come up. The columnist proposed the un-event in an effort to provide people with a day where they're not obliged to celebrate anything. So, go ahead. Do nothing.
January 17. Ditch Your New Year's Resolution Day
What a cheat day is to a diet, this event is to your resolutions. This is your get-out-of-jail-free card. It's also a perfect opportunity to reflect on your resolutions. If it's turning out to be a can of worms, so to speak, how about revising it to a more doable commitment?
January 18. Thesaurus Day
Say you're "exhausted" instead of "tired" from commuting; "fathom" instead of "understand." Celebrate this godsend storehouse of words by playing a game of synonyms because it's Thesaurus Day! An extensive vocabulary is never not impressive.
January 19. Popcorn Day
From plain salt to butter to caramel, a tub of crunchy popcorn is beloved by many theater and cinema-goers. No time to head out? Honor this day at the comfort of your own home by popping a bag into the microwave before you binge on your favorite show.
January 21. Hug Day
Sincerity is scary, but it is key to building a close and lasting relationship with fellow humans . Give and get a hug on Hug Day. For those who don't have "physical touch" as their love language, a fist-bump or a high-five may do the trick.
January 25. Opposite Day
Opposite Day holds a spot in the list of most absurd yet fun holidays. For starters, you can eat dinner for breakfast, wear your clothes backward, and don't procrastinate. It's a rollercoaster ride of silliness and entertainment, preferably enjoyed with your VIP. Just don't engage in a serious conversation on this day.
We're no Joan of Arc, and it'd be a sin to ignore the harrowing part of fear instated by a new year. Taking things into perspective, maybe not all days are that bad. Take the events mentioned above, for example.
