In this fast-paced city life, we barely have enough time to cook our meals (or are too lazy to, tbh). We are guilty of regularly binge-eating junk and fast food even if we’re aware that it’s not exactly healthy.

And so, you make plans to detoxify to make you feel less guilty and more healthy. Detoxifying is a short dietary intervention that helps get rid of body toxins (and probably help with weight loss, too!). Ready-made juice cleanse is not exactly cheap, though. Luckily, you can easily create your own.

Check out these local market ingredients priced under 50php. You can create different mixes with the fruits and veggies on the list. They may even help you discover your own recipe! All you need is a juicer or a blender, and you’re ready to cleanse!

Lemon (30php per piece)

We all know citrus fruits are a good source of Vitamin C, which reduces the risk of chronic diseases, iron deficiencies, and high blood pressure and boosts the immune system. Lemon helps with weight loss, digestion, and cleaning the liver. Add sliced lemons to your usual glass of water or add it with celery, apples, and cucumber for a powerful cleanse.


Orange (20php per piece)

Just like any of its citrus family, orange is also rich in Vitamin C. Oranges help with digestion, boost the immune system, and lower cholesterol. You can add it to your usual water, make it as juice, or pair it with cucumber for a refreshing detox drink.

Apple (20php per piece)

Apples are full of antioxidants and fiber that may help fight serious diseases like cancer, heart disease, and diabetes. So maybe an apple a day is more than its cliche after all. You can add apple to your water, or blend it with carrot and orange as a smoothie or juice.

Every local mom’s go-to "cure" for cough and colds can also be our go-to juice cleansing ingredient. It’s cheap and you can grow it in your background, so it can be a good alternative for recipes with lemons.

Celery(10-15php per stalk)

Celery or kintsay is a good source of antioxidants and dietary fiber—an aid to digestion. You should try to blend it with cucumber or can also eat it as is. If you want a little twist, eat it with peanut butter!


Cucumber (15-20php per piece)

Cucumber contains about 90% water, so it really helps with the body's hydration and digestion. Plus, it is low in calories, so if you are aiming for weight loss, cucumber can help you with that!

Carrot (10-15php per piece)

When we were younger, we were taught that carrots make our eyesight better and it helps fight cancer. Now, why don't we put that knowledge to good use and put a carrot in your detox juice?


Just so we’re clear, these are not your only choices. You can explore others that are within your budget. Mix and match but make sure the ingredients complement each other. Otherwise, your detox may result in an upset stomach. Pair your juice with a balanced diet and healthy lifestyle, and you’ll be cleansed in no time!
