So you got drunk from last night's party, but luckily you put yourself safely to bed—a night spent well, right? Then you wake up with a head filled with ache and regrets, and a dry throat voicing ‘di na ako iinom ulit. What do you do from there?
Hitting the gym to sweat out the toxins is one way to cure a nasty hangover, but not everyone has that luxury or even the encouragement to get off the bed (hats off to y'all fitness buffs out there). Of course, there are prevention methods such as drinking lots of water and eating greasy foods while consuming alcohol. But more often than not, we get caught in the moment and end up yelling YOLO.
Because Stinson's Hangover Fixer Elixir exists only in the fiction world, we asked millennials about their post-walwal routine so you know what to do the next time (or so you know you're not alone in this feat).
Marco, 23, Social Media Coordinator
"I would drink lots of cold water or soft drinks. Then I'd wash or roll ice on my face with cold water. It may sound crazy but it works for me. And if the pain is still hammering my head, my next option is to take a cold shower."
Pat, 23, Sales Officer
"Oily food. Pocari sweat minsan or Gatorade tapos lots of sleep. And yosi, smoker ako eh. Don't forget shades kasi 'pag nakita mo ‘yung ayaw mong tao tapos may hangover ka taposnaabutan ka pa ng bad mood, warlanaito."
Nes*, 28, Freelance Writer
"Sometimes, I would gulp a small bottle of Coke just to spare myself with the sweet taste. Usual nasa akin 'yungkunggaano ka kalakasuminom ng alak ay ganoongkarami rin dapat 'yungtubigsasistema ko."
Patricia, 23, Coordinator
"Drink lots of water. Greasy food helps if may craving ka; a good burger or pizza. Pero masarap din sabaw so like sinigang sana ulam the next day."
Niña, 23, Account Executive
"‘Di ako kumakain ng breakfast 'pag may hangover eh lalo akong nasusuka. Bumibili akong coke! ‘Yung coke kasalo tapos gusto ko super lamig kaya bumibili pa ko noong tube ice."
Ces, 22, Business Development Manager & Event Specialist
"What works for me might not work for everyone but what I usually do is I load up on Tylenol. I eat a lot of greasy food and then I wash it down with a cold beer. Lastly, I regret all the shots that I did and the bottles I chugged."
Needless to say, it pays to be a responsible drinker. You can sleep for hours, bathe in cold water, and hydrate all you can, but nothing beats the best hangover cure of them all: moderation. What’s your remedy?
