At some point in our lives, we may have wished life comes with a reset button, especially when things feel too overwhelming or when we’ve hit the snooze button way too much. Sometimes we only have ourselves to blame especially with the many forms of distraction readily available within our reach: social media and streaming sites like Netflix for example.
But these forms of media don’t have to be the bane of our existence, especially with a lot of inspiring content. It’s all in our choices. Make binge-watching feel less of a guilty pleasure with these shows that are sure to inspire you to keep your life in check:
Queer Eye (2018)
Netflix's Queer Eye 2018 reboot screams yaaasss with their complete makeovers, and by that, we mean makeovers that go beyond skin deep. Not only does Fab 5's subjects get new looks and redesigned spaces, the group also gives serious pep talks, life-changing reflections, and hugs that make you want to receive one, too. You may shed some tears towards the end of every episode, don’t tell us we didn’t warn you.
Tidying Up with Marie Kondo
If you've noticed your feed full of people with a sudden interest in folding clothes and claiming to choose things that only "spark joy," that's probably because of Marie Kondo, a Japanese organizing consultant and author of four books on organizing. In her Netflix series, we get to see people struggle to complete their tidying adventures—too relatable, tbh—using the guiding principles of the "KonMari Method."
Minimalism is an hour-long documentary about the importance of things—on living more with less. Minimalism looks into the bigger picture of a minimalists’ lifestyle, weaving it into a narrative that tackles consumerism, its effects on the environment and ultimately on the living conditions of humans. There's at least one person you'll relate to or want to emulate lifestyles within this documentary.
Nailed It! is every frustrated chef and baker’s ally. Far from your usual cooking shows and cook-offs, this reality TV series puts the spotlight on everyday home bakers to recreate treats—or at least try to—and the results often ends up hilarious. If you’ve gained the confidence to create something epic from internet food videos and ended up failing, this show is to inspire you to keep trying in the kitchen.
The Great Interior Design Challenge
Amateur designers with tight budgets—isn’t that all of us every time we move into a new space? Quite similar to Nailed It! in bringing together rookies, The Great Interior Design Challenge is a competition that sends "Britain's best amateur interior designers" to redecorate people's homes that usually end up with results that'll give you the confidence to say "I can do better than that!"
You see, pressing play on Netflix does not always mean putting our life on pause with these shows. Now go and filter your lives with things that only spark joy and spread fabulous vibes, you’ve got this!
