The start of a new year comes another season for Repertory Philippines. While we're still a month away from their 82nd Season's first show, a historical play entitled Miong, REP's Theater for Young Audiences continues to stage Rapunzel! Rapunzel! A Very Hairy Fairy Tale.

The musical features characters as you know them, only quirkier thanks to its colorful cast and director Joy Virata (Silent Sky). In this retelling of the childhood classic, Princess Rapunzel (Cara Barredo, Mikkie Bradshaw, Justine Narciso, and Alyssa Rosa) is kidnapped and trapped inside a lone tower in the woods by the evil Lady Za Za (Carla Guevara-Laforteza and Liesl Batucan), who discreetly tries to seize the entire kingdom.

Meanwhile, Prince Roderick (Hans Eckstein and Andres Borromeo) and his friend Edgar (Steven Hotchkiss, Chino Veguillas, and Kenny Isidoro), a determined hairstylist who turned his back on knight training, are on a quest to find the perfect head of hair.

Together with a strange Gypsy Woman (Bituin Escalante and Naths Everett) looking for her stolen piece of jewelry with hidden powers, and the old but lovable dragon Socrates (Arnel Carrion, Raymund Concepcion, and Jamie Wilson), they try to rescue Rapunzel and defeat the scheming would-be queen.

Because it's a musical, one can expect an assemblage of tunes that align with the titular character's story and with the extended cast. That said, it's an adventure you can't miss. Rapunzel! Rapunzel! A Very Hairy Fairy Tale runs until January 27 at the OnStage Theater, Greenbelt 1, Makati City. Catch it while you can!
