Are you ready to see all these stories unfold on the stage?
It was yet another stellar year for theater company Repertory Philippines and its patrons. We laughed at the hilarious A Comedy of Tenors and the dark-humored Arsenic and Old Lace, got inspired with Silent Sky, and sang along the classic fairytale Rapunzel! Rapunzel!. Now we're on to the next season.
Expect the return of REP's most iconic talents and debuts of newcomers who embody the company’s brand of top-notch theater production. REP, known for bringing the best of West End and Broadway to the Philippines, will also be producing two original musicals for the first time in its history.
Helmed by a star-studded stable of directors, writers, and cast members, REP's 82nd Season is shaping up to be yet another promising one for the company. Check out REP's sneak-peek of their 82nd Season shows:
Miong (February 15 to March 10)
Directed by Joy Virata
Miong is a historical play about the country's first president, Emilio Aguinaldo. This REP original, to be staged during his sesquicentennial birth anniversary, paints a picture of the national hero that is seldom shown by history books. It is a tale of courage, patriotism, and how the most ordinary young person can accomplish great things.
Father’s Day (March 22 to April 14)
Directed by Baby Barredo
The production sees the return of the legendary Baby Barredo to the REP director’s chair through Father's Day, a sharp and witty play about an awkward and hilarious reunion between a divorced man and his estranged family. Here, heavy themes are unpacked with endless humor.
The Dresser (May 3 to May 26)
Directed by Loy Arcenas
Based on a British drama set in a war-torn 1940s, The Dresser follows the relationship between a tormented thespian and his loyal dresser. It is a story of how "the show must go on"; a poignant look at companionship and the persistence of art in a time of war.
The Quest for the Adarna (September 14 to January 12, 2020)
Directed by Joy Virata
82nd Season's REP Theater for Young Audience will be presented by another REP original, The Quest for the Adarna. This English adaptation of the famous Filipino epic is poised to be a colorful celebration of Philippine culture fit not only for young audiences but also for the family.
The untold story of a Philippine hero. An unexpected but hilarious family reunion. A poignant companionship between an actor and his dresser. A fresh and original retelling of a Filipino epic. Are you ready to see all these stories unfold on the stage?
